I am dead back at the office today, taking it slow. The album is on repeat again, always. I feel the worst post concert depression ever, so I keep my eyes on my upcoming events page to see what is coming and pull me out of the blues. Perhaps I should book a summer holiday to get my hopes up too? Fresh sun and d can always help.
Finally – Yesterday was the day, where I looked forward to so much. I can’t remember when I went to a concert alone, and I’m glad I did. I was a bit nervous for this because I just knew it was amazing and glad I went alone, as it’s just something, so you can fully focus on the show. Got all dressed up in my Formation World Tour (where’s the DVD, tho?) t-shirt and I went there by train and was there around 7:00, went to the merchandise stands and the fans were sold out (yesterday already), so I got a nice cap (preparing to give daddy vibes) and the t-shirt with her face on it. There was also an option to buy it online, great for fans who wanted it to be sent home, or you could pick it up.
Getting there in Golden Circle A was so good. Thanks again Pat for getting me tickets, after the mess of removing the extra announced date and adding it while the concerts were on sale, making it one huge annoying queue. We had to enter at a big entrance together with the field places (annoying), but we could walk to the Golden Circle using a special fast lane, which looked like a catwalk to the seats next to it. So everyone had their main character moment there.
The view was good and there were not a lot of tall fans in there, so that was great, but I’m just average height, so all good. There was enough space, but it was very hot as the roof was closed and partly blinded, but thank god I had a nice fan with me. The playlist before was good and god the screens and stage design all were so amazing. Couldn’t wait for it to start. Then she started, and my god. Those vocals? Is she only getting better with age? Insane. She sang and greeted all the fathers in the audience and let us know that Matthew was there too for the concert. How sweet. It was all good with the ‘opening’ act, and she did River Deep, Mountain High as a tribute to Tina Turner. I was so happy to be part of that. And the shiny new red dress? Fitting like a glove. She looked breathtaking, and it was just the first outfit!
Then… RENAISSANCE started and whoop that bass came hard to kick it off?! It was insane and a lot of people in the front had problems with it… But not for me, as I have my earplugs pro (from Alpine) and they were so good. So I enjoyed it a lot and wow. She was so close, it was good to see, amazing screens and I could easily dance and sing to every song! A lot of people around me only seemed to come alive during singles they knew and that was a kind of vibe killer? But expected when I’m not shelling out €400 to enjoy her up close? The peeps were static during RENAISSANCE… It truly is a love letter to Uncle Jonny and made for us. I guess sound is usually not very good in stadiums but if you are close and wear earplugs it’s all fine, and seeing her in real life is already close to too much to handle.
The new outfits were gorgeous. I liked the ‘opener’ outfit, COZY and AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM ones. But glad there was something done for Juneteenth, and it’s always a good moment, the most important concert of my life, to recognize this. Her insta post about it is here. Also… The Iris van Herpen outfit from the previous night was so stunning and so insanely beautiful.
Beyonce in Iris van Herpen.
The screen, the middle screen and everything was so incredibly beautiful and a feast for the eye. I was hooked on it all the time and never missed a thing, but it was so big to look at. The ALIEN BORN / MOTHERBOARD interlude with her in the space everything, born in the water and all… That gave me major iconic Pokémon: The First Movie. Where Mewtwo is destroying everything away from the scientists, and escaping to freedom. Also with the clones in similar things there. Rip.
Also, the part about time and space and being so similar to Interstellar dark hole thingy? Space will never not be iconic!
Surprise surprise, she wasn’t there the previous night but this time Blue Ivy joined for MY POWER and BLACK PARADE. Those were definitely such good moments and so much joy on stage. Insane. She hit every move and the crowd went while. I was pretty close during BREAK MY SOUL and got a nice video, as did everyone else in the Gold Circle A there. I guess, what can we say? Everyone always talks about people putting up their phone but still everyone does it. I guess that’s concerts nowadays and it just happens. But I saw everything! I’m glad I had my spot there and enjoyed it all.
I was so happy I experienced this album as it meant a lot to me. From the leak, finding a good train and getting it early, the Kelis sample and discovering everything while we were together here in the middle of summer and this almost a year after. That and this concert were such a moment. This was the soundtrack of my life the last 326 days (I checked that) and I enjoyed and enjoy it all so much. The way every song was mixed, segued and added into the album/set list and the show. It was just so amazing. My favourites were COZY, ALIEN SUPERSTAR, CUFF IT, BREAK MY SOUL, Formation, MY POWER, BLACK PARADE, Savage Remix, Before I Let Go, VIRGO’S GROOVE and HEATED. That RAP live was so insane, I did spot the autocue but bless she didn’t look at it once! Of course, I really liked the show with half being favourites, ha.
The robots everywhere, the futuristic dance with the frame, too much to tell. Everything was alive and her dancers were so incredible. The outfits of them too, and the moments they had. Also, that band? They were all insanely talented and everyone so hot. Also, the going into the QUEENS REMIX and back had me gooped, and it felt so insane to have everything alive in this way. The energy, the vocals, the dancing, the stage. It all was just so much. The ball part was insane, the dancers giving everything and some moves were just terribly shockingly unrealistic, that the human body can perform that!
Then she came back for SUMMER RENAISSANCE, and everyone was expecting Reneigh to fly. But I heard she ate the grass in Amsterdam, so she was feeling dizzy! No flying in the end but still a nice closer. I guess if she flew, she would be above the standing areas stuff so I would just watch the screens or her back, meh. The way it closed was just the perfect ending, and it all felt complete.
After that, some people around were like are those Bey’s parents and I mean come on… OK, It’s Tina but… HELLO UNCLE JONNY! So ignorant! Happy you’re all going to her show but??? Imagine if you could get a smaller venue with the real fans™ only and pop off! Daydreaming away…
The concert organization added some photos and reviews online, of course… All perfect.
Definitely 12/10.
Next time I’m going to 2 shows for shows or grab an opening night (cc: iconic Stockholm), alone or not and will get even more merchandise!
Ready for the visuals?! act ii.
