I saw her July 8th in the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam.
Me writing this review behind my laptop:
A little information beforehand. She was pretty expensive (€67) without having a recent hit or anything, but I am so gullible by ticketing and pop queens so I bought tickets right away and did not regret a thing. But then something happened: She did not sell so good and tickets were being given away for a contest by the organizer? What is the name of Christina Aguilera her latest album? Of course, we all know and the GP can easily Google too: Liberation. And for getting that sent in an email I won 2 tickets. That looked shady because on the tickets it said they were 0€ but they worked. So I decided to take a friend with my concert buddy and I, and sell one ticket and split the proceeds a little, cuz I’m like that. I love my friends!
We got there and it looked a little empty or so at the start? So we hung our coats at the wardrobe for the first time ever there and we got them back pretty fast too at the end, yay! All for free, while usually we are stuck with lockers and paying for them and the big rush stuff. We got there and checked out the merchandise of course. The dishwasher magnets were very cute, but not worth €15 to me so I’d let them slip… They were selling out though, as when I asked the person to show them to me there was only 1 left but eh. (I once bought a magnet for 3€ at another concert so guess why this felt off). Great for Legend X getting coin though. The tour shirts were alright, quite some people were wearing them in the venue, impressive!
We entered the room while Drax Project was on and then stood there. They ended and then suddenly lots of people moved out of the crowd to get drinks and all. So we all went a bit forward and I had a great view I think. My concert bestie is so tall, so there’s always room behind him to dance but usually I stand in front and it wasn’t packed, I think they gave quite some tickets away, but curious to see box office results if those ever exist for NL as I’ve never seen them. Anyways.
She started quite on time around 9-ish and those visuals were stunning, every time. Bionic intro was a bit meh (not a fan of that one) and Your Body was amazing. I literally played that song to death and have searched for the CD single for ages (someone hook me up?! but not too pricey). So glad I saw that although it could have been more towards studio version. Yes, she did not cut it that short (I don’t remember) but that song alone was worth it after never seeing a live performance. That video also wew, still blows my mind living that femme fatale fantasy every time I watch it. Truly an iconic legend.
I think she did Dirrty & Lady Marmalade in full and those really gave me life. I had never seen her in a concert before and am glad I did not hear those classics live. She sang, bitch she SANG! That was her best quality for the concert for sure, along with the visuals. I also liked the dance breaks just to switch it up a bit and as posted before; the visuals did some really heavy lifting of it all. Accelerate was a moment too; what a song. Glad that was there and then, of course, the classics in there, wow. Beautiful received such a warm response and the whole crowd sang along. Also wow at the Twice reception? Like suddenly everyone knew it (then why don’t u buy her records?). The way she spoke in between songs was not forced and felt pretty warm. The outfits were also pretty good. The gold during Dirrty? Wig. That red and black leather? Snatched.
I did not get why there was no build up at the end, during the encore being just a repeated chorus of Let There Be Love. She really loves that song right? With a verse before it, it would have allowed to build up. And of course, the rainbow message on the screens was very #relevant for #Pride and happy she acknowledges the gays. Also an interlude/dance section was designed for gays too, queen knows. Rainbow confetti? Groundbreaking. I have to say I expected & hoped for more for that price, so it wasn’t one of the best concerts I went to. If it was about 2 hours instead of the 1,5 with so many shortened songs it would have been well worth it, I guess. However, if she comes around roughly every 10 years or so I am willing to pay that price her, yes! Indeed, she dropped the SAY! but there were many HAHA’s and cackling. Her new thing. I missed Not Myself Tonight and WooHoo would have been quite fun, but alright. I feared ‘oversinging’ would have been a thing but it was relatively okay. It’s a nice break from Vegas I guess and giving the Europe GP a view of it, although there could be more to it.
