So my review for the Monday 18 June 2018 in Amsterdam.
I had some issues with getting the tickets. Someone was gonna send me it by post but then it didn’t arrive on the Monday so I bought one off TicketSwap and hope to get my money back from that original ticket, hmm.
I went there quite on time, had a salad in the train and was a bit in the front, so quite close. The opener, JOY, was a dull thing and reminded me of a long dead Taylor Swift. So I read a bit in my magazines I brought to kill the time and was happy I could watch over everybody that had been standing there for 8 hours to have a slightly better view. In future, I am getting golden tickets for my faves as I have the income anyways (or become fucking able to buy M&G like with Dua Lipa where I didn’t get it darn cuz it was sold out).
She came on and looked quite good, yes! And I was quite surprised by the production value of it all! 2 really big screens on the side, 4 big screens in the middle and then 4 smaller ones below that. In between that was the band.
She had quite a few dancers and I adored the video before Daddy Issues – hilarious. Also she brought a kiss cam during Give Your Heart A Break (I think), this is standard US thing but I really liked it here, as I practically never see them in NL). That was quite fun and I was scary as hell if they would film me and this random guy next to me so – adrenaline rush. Many gay & lesbian couples, hurray. Mess were her attempts at basic choreo or trying to do a few dance moves and then she got such an applause from the crowd – they were easy to please. No m’am – that don’t impress me much. It was forced and did not work. It just didn’t cut it.
The vocals were good. I loved that she did Solo but hate her for changing Instruction to No Promises. Instruction was a hit in Europe so why switch it back to that? Also skipping Skyscraper and Fall in Line, the concert ended in just over an hour. If it was one hour and a half it woulda been way better and then I would kinda stan. Just do those that she skipped and add Body Say or Sober. But in her defence, she did not cut any songs short so that’s that. Perhaps get a medley out of some average singles.
Favourites: Daddy Issues, Solo, Cool for the Summer, Sorry Not Sorry (#boppity, bops 4 life). I can’t at the attempt to give us an epileptic attack with showing tweets about them #haterz before Sorry Not Sorry, but it went off so that was great. Also she had 3 wigs or so? Quite impressive to me what she all switched and thus. They looked so good. She did not smile that much and could have looked happier, perhaps she was trying to look sexy or something… I am quite impressed by her standing up for mental issues and will watch her documentary soon, also I respect her for that. But mess at the the one thing that separates me from other artist is the connection with my fans – as if other artists do not have that… Right. But the kiddies fell for it.
Overall, I’m quite impressed by her. Just came in (like with Camila Cabello) with no high expectations and then you never get disappointed. I thought it would be just a quick ‘lil average concert but the production value really upped it and she has improved – plus the bops. If she came previous era I would not go for sure, but for this era she has the bops & hits, (other) good songs and this valuable tour.
Glad she’s in such a good place and Sober as start of the new era certainly is promising, keeping my eyes on her.
