So a bit late… But here is my review of her show 11th of August in The Hague, Netherlands at the Malieveld.
I came there by e-bike (how very Dutch, yay!) and she brought special guests Vance Joy en DJ KidCutUp but I did not see those. I came a bit late halfway, I thought I would easily make it on time but of course forgot how big that damn field is and also I am never that good in navigation in The Hague, well, so halfway during Dutch support act Davina Michelle, darnit! I also checked the merchandise, and I was not impressed, so moving on to the support. She was quite good but all the talk was a bit shitty. I forgot that I had to walk around because I had Golden Circle tickets (an impulse purchase) and so went almost all the way through everybody until I realized and saw the entry at the side in front. So I heard her perform and she started with her biggest hit, that was too bad. Hoped that would be her last but alas. Anyways, enjoyed it. Then when she was finished she wanted to take a picture with the crowd but she was cut off, I had to kii. So she waved around to show everyone to put up her hands up. That was funny. And then I finally got to a good place to see the show eh eh.
Me pushing past boring, A P!nk version of Can-I-speak-to-the-manager haircut with kids, Karens, girls (aka woman clearly not girls anymore) having a ‘fun night out’, other straight stereotypes people to get to the Golden Circle with all kids of people, easily impressed and just not my type of people:
But then I decided to not care (What would BeyoncéP!NK do?) and just read some PopJustice Forrem on my phone and wait till she comes on. Which did not take long as she got there around 9, which was great as I wanted to be on time back of course but more about that later. She hung from a chandelier (how Sia of her) and of course the hits were there. She opened with Get the Part Started, well that was fun! Good way to start. Then the first act also had Just Like a Pill too, so the classics started the crowd well!
I bopped hard to Just Like Fire, cuz I just love that song so much in all its’ basic glory. I don’t care about the movie it is connected to, but glad she did and shot an OK video of it (only first verse and chorus, the rest I was dancing & bopping. It was a nice stage set-up too then.
Other highlights were Just Like a Girl (Gwen Stefani cover) mixed with Funhouse and Time After Time (Cyndia Lauper cover). Hehe, not other songs being better! Then I liked What About Us and Fucking Perfect. She had some nice choreo, fun stage design. Funhouse was great. Dancers were great, and there was a very hot one in there too, WOOF! Glad he danced shirtless a few times. Cute that her kids came on stage for a second or so too. Then they had to go and one started crying, awh…
The outfit before the ending was a choice. Good that it was hard to find pics of it online cuz that messy thing. Well. Alright. The rest was good, nice looks etc.
The concert went on and took almost 2 hours. Then the finale… In short:
Kidding! It was pretty epic, she flew all around the field (such a different experience than a stadium I guess) while she sang So What. Then it ended and it was a horrible mess getting out. Everyone had to go out at the entrance because the sides of the park are all roads. It was tragic so many people trying get out such a small space. It took almost 30 minutes or so. I overheard a couple women saying this show is so good cuz it’s so neutral and other inoffensive descriptive words. I almost sputtered to shout beige at them but no. I waited so long queueing out and hop on my bike to go home.
In short, the concert was great, very energetic but a bit expected. P!NK has found her market, so called SkyRadio women with kids and stuff and it works for her. Would you do the same to sell out stadiums around the world? She’s not that risky anymore and well, it sells. On the after-show page and Facebook event, it is full of people praising her, so the GP is eating from her hands… I am glad I saw her because it was a nice show, I was up close and the show was just 30 minutes away. But next time I gotta snatch some free tickets or not go.
